YEAR COMPLETED: 2021
CLIENT: Wisconsin State Representative Francesca Hong
DELIVERABLES: B&W digitally illustrated design intended for apparel and totes.
SCOPE: My State Representative, Francesca Hong, commissioned me to make a new design to sell on apparel and totes to help fundraise for her reelection, but wasn't totally sure what she wanted visualized.
I told her that one of my favorite things that US Representative AOC does at the end of each year is post the literal things her office did that year for her constituents, and Fran is known in Madison for getting sh*t done as well.
So, I asked her to send me a list of her proudest bills and accomplishments from her first term, and to explain to me what her philosophy is around working with community. Before becoming a state representative, she was a chef and restaurant owner, and ran on the idea of "sharing the table," which means she wants to listen and collaborate with local leaders in ways that previous representatives have not done.
In response, I created the following sketches (below). I liked the idea of Fran sitting at the shared table, listening to the needs and asks from her constituents, and responding "Heard!", which is a very common, quick, and effective acknowledgement phrase in the restaurant industry. Originating from the pen in her hand and spanning around her are seven circles that show the literal things Fran has accomplished or moved forward in Wisconsin.

As you'll notice, we updated a few of the circles throughout the process, and made Fran's name less prominent (by request) in lieu of having "Share the Table" the most prominent message.
In the end, we came up with the final version (first image), and had them printed on hoodies and totes. Sadly, they were limited edition and are no longer available for purchase, but here's a cute picture of Fran showing off the tote with her kiddo!
