YEAR COMPLETED: 2021
CLIENT: Mark commissioned this piece for his wife's birthday :)
DELIVERABLES: Full color digitally illustrated 11x14 print.
SCOPE: I was commissioned by Mark to create a fun little portrait of early 70's David Bowie (back in his Ziggy Stardust and Diamond Dogs era) with the full Spiders of Mars band.
After chatting with Mark more and doing a bunch of research on Diamond Dogs, I recommended a scene where they're all jamming out in an alley while the city burns from the moon is coming too close to Earth, since much of this album was inspired by the book 1984 and ultimately became a dystopian concept album. I also thought it would be a fun tribute to include security cameras in the alley as a nod to 1984 (since Bowie originally wanted this to be a full 1984 concept album, but Orwell's estate wouldn't approve), all while including the weird blue characters on the Diamond Dogs album cover.
